Recreational (REC) Divisions

North Langley Diamond Sport's - Softball Recreational (REC) program is for youth ages 5-adult.

This is a great platform for athletes who enjoy both the competitive and social aspects of softball. Focusing on further developing fundamental skills through positive instruction and encouragement, the program is best suited for girls who are willing to learn and want to have fun, but do not necessarily want the high pressure that goes along with elite level competition.

While the practice and game schedules are not as intense as they are in the rep program, the overall experience is just as positive and rewarding.

Rec Registration Fees - Spring 2024

Divisions

The season begins April and concludes in June.
A focus on skill development on Wednesday evenings and games on Saturday.
Coaches may also call for practices on other days.
Teams are ideally set at 8 or 9 players to ensure minimal down time, but they may be larger
All players participate & rotate positions.
Emphasis on having fun while still developing skills and allows them to experience the value of teamwork.
1 game/week on Saturday's
Introductory level to softball utilizing a pitching machine. Emphasis on basic skills - throwing / catching / hitting
Uniform consists of jersey, shorts, socks & visor.
Glove, batting helmet with cage is necessary.
Jill is recommended.

Play days are Monday/Wednesday
Coaches may also call for practices on other days.

2 game/week on Monday and Wednesday nights
Introductory level to softball utilizing a pitching machine. Emphasis on basic skills - throwing / catching / hitting
Uniform consists of jersey, shorts, socks & visor.
Glove, batting helmet with cage is necessary.
Jill is recommended.

U11

The season begins April and concludes in June.
Game days are Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Coaches will also call for practices on other days.
We attempt to accommodate all teammate requests, however, it is not always possible.
All teams use Fair Play rules, so all players participate & rotate positions.
Emphasis on having fun while still developing skills which allows them to experience the value of teamwork.
1-2 games/week. Games are 1 hour in length with pre-game warm up time determined by the team's coach.
Half-way through the season, games are interlocked with Langley Fastball Association, so there will be games throughout Langley.
Introductory level to softball.
Player pitching introduced (with Coach assistance).
Emphasis on basic skills - throwing / catching / hitting.
Uniform consists of jersey, shorts, socks & visor.
Glove, face mask, batting helmet with cage & Jill are mandatory.

U13

Season begins in April and concludes in June.
Participation in the Regional Tournament in June, is highly encouraged.
Game days are Mondays and Wednesdays.
Coaches will also call for practices on other days.
All teams use Fair Play rules, so all players participate & rotate positions.
1-2 games/week (weekdays) is typical. Games begin at 6:30 p.m. and are approximately 1.5 hours with pre-game warm up time determined by the team's coach.
Coaches may choose to hold additional practices throughout the week.
Games are interlocked with District 8 teams, so some travel to Langley, Abbotsford and Chilliwack will be necessary.
Teams (in consultation with parents) may enter additional weekend tournaments throughout the season.
First year where the entire game is pitched by a player.
Innings have a 4 run maximum.
Emphasis on having fun while still developing skills and allows them to experience the value of teamwork.
Uniform consists of jersey, pants, socks & visor.
Glove, face mask, batting helmet with cage and jill are mandatory.

U15

Season early April to late June
District & Provincial Tournaments in July for qualifying teams.
Tuesdays and Thursdays are game days.
Coaches will also call for practices on other days.
All players participate & rotate positions but typically play a few selected positions to further improve the game play.
2 games/ week (weekdays) is typical.
Games begin at 6:30 p.m. and are approximately 2 hours in length with a 30 to 60 minute warm-up prior to game time.
Possible Interlock changes, so travel may be necessary. (through Lower Mainland Softball Committee)
Coaches may choose to hold additional field and batting cage practices throughout the week.
Teams (in consultation with parents) may enter additional weekend tournaments throughout the season.
Uniform consists of jersey, pants, socks & visor.
Glove, face mask, batting helmet with cage & jill are mandatory.

U17

Mondays and Wednesdays These are game days.
Coaches will also call for field and batting cage practices on other days.
Season runs April thru June.
District & Provincial Tournaments in July for qualifying teams
All players participate & rotate positions but typically play a few selected positions to further improve game play.
2 games/week (weekdays).
Games begin at 6:30 or 8:30 p.m. and are approximately 2 hours in length with a 30 to 60 minute practice prior to game time.
Possible Interlock changes, so travel may be necessary. (through Lower Mainland Softball Committee)
Coaches may choose to hold additional practices throughout the week.
Teams (in consultation with parents) may enter additional weekend tournaments throughout the season.
Uniform consists of jersey, pants, socks & cap
Glove, face mask, batting helmet with cage & jill are mandatory.

U20

U23

Mite Select

Mite Select is a prequel to the rep program.
There are try-outs for selecting players for this team.
Typically LMSC interlock which means the team will play all over the Lower Mainland.
Monday and Wednesday game days.
The team will play 3-5 tournaments, concluding with the U11 Provincials.
Potentially some games in the US.
Off-season training is MANDATORY and will be 1 team practice and 1 batting practice per week.
Pitchers and back catchers may have 1 extra practice per week.
Starting in our 2022 season we have introduced a 2012 Mite Select team as well as our 2011 team.
Off-season training begins in late October.
Generally try-outs are in late September. Watch for our news, or your email, around that time.
