We love our Coaches!

If you love girls softball as much as we do then please consider coaching a team. Every year we have several teams that would not be able to play without the generosity and commitment of people like you. Our coaches have a direct impact on others. Not only are they teaching the skills of Softball, our coaches are helping the kids learn, grow, gain self confidence, and develop life skills along the way all while teaching them how to be part of a team and love the game of Softball.

Coaching Criteria

For the Recreational program, all coaches MUST:

Complete their Criminal Record Check (CRC) by March 31st.

A criminal record check must be done annually. We need approvals in for all coaches and team managers. North Langley Diamond Sports covers the cost for the check for all our coaches and team managers.

b) Navigate to the Criminal Record Check website, paste in the code and follow the steps.

IF YOU HAVE THE BC SERVICES APP:

The application can be completed on either a mobile phone or a home computer. If the application is being done on a home computer, a mobile phone will still be required to verify your ID.

IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THE BC SERVICES APP:

From your cell phone, follow this link. The process will take a few days to have your information verified.
After your BC Services Card is active, please then return to this page to complete the CRC process.

IF YOU CANNOT OR DO NOT WANT TO HAVE A BC SERVICES CARD

Please email our administration to receive a paper form. This form will be the person's responsibility to bring to a RCMP office to be verified.

Next complete the below coaching courses, as applicable:

Complete Fundamentals of Coaching online course prior to start of season. As Softball BC governs many coaching policies. They have recently changed the NCCP certification process. It is now mandatory for ALL of our coaches (head and assistants) to take the Fundamentals Of Coaching course prior to the season starting. All coaches need to have an account at coach.ca. Community Coaching Certification (coaches in U11C to U19C) It is required that coaches have their Softball BC Community Coaching Certification (formerly Level 1). If you are interested in a team at that level you can check out the available clinics offered on the Softball BC site. (Pls note that due to Covid-19 Restrictions this rule has been placed on hold)

What are my responsibilities?

At the minimum the head coach arranges for the equipment to be brought to games and practices, makes up the batting order, assigns positions on the field, and conducts a warm up before games. The coach should be familiar with the rules of softball and the basic fundamentals of how to throw, catch, and hit the ball and be able to teach these basic skills to the players. The coach should be prepared to organize at least 1 practice per week where he/she will lead the team in practicing the fundamentals. The league will assist new coaches in preparing a practice plan to teach these fundamentals.

Getting organized

At the coaches meeting you will receive a team list and a schedule if available. You will need to contact your players asap and arrange a team meeting. The team meeting is an opportunity to get everyone together and discuss the upcoming season and figure out who is doing what. The league will provide you with an equipment bag (balls, bats, scorebooks, etc.), and team uniforms!! Pick a team manager as they will be your liaison with the parents. We want coaches to coach and be on the field, not get involved in the other duties.
